The internet has a short memory. Today’s viral success quickly becomes yesterday’s news. It was just a few days ago that CeeLo Green showed up to the Grammys looking like Goldmember and it already seems like ancient history. And remember that rumor that CeeLo was injured when his phone exploded in the recording studio? Probably not, because it happened way back in December. The point is not to talk more about CeeLo (I’ll stop doing that), it’s to show that you can be everywhere one minute and nowhere the next.
But Jeremy Meeks refuses to be nowhere. While his name may not ring a bell, you may remember him as “Hot Mugshot Guy.” Meeks was the man everyone was talking about way back in 2014 when the Stockton California Police Department posted his mugshot on their Facebook page. He had been arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and remained in prison until March of last year. Following his release, Meeks has tried to capitalize on his fame, and on Monday, he made his New York Fashion Week debut in designer Philipp Plein’s runway show.
Meeks opened Plein’s show, and was joined on the runway by other celebrity-models Fetty Wap, Desiigner and Young Thug. Fashion insider Carine Roitfeld, who styled the show and is the former editor of French Vogue, posted a photo with Meeks with the caption, “My new friend @jmeeksofficial.”
Since leaving jail, Meeks has established an impressive social media presence. He has over 800,000 followers on Instagram, where his profile pic is, you guessed it, that mugshot.
It’s unclear whether Meeks has what it takes to be the next Derek Zoolander or Hansel, but he drives a Maserati and has a nice home, which is a definite step up from his prison days.
